Digital Media: Austin

This post is to give a general breakdown of the digital media industries here in Austin. Now of course they all intertwine in some way or another otherwise there wouldn’t be that great buzzword we all like to use, “convergence”. However most companies have a core business that they are involved with and that is how I intend to categorize the company. In fact you can mainly break down the segments based on the type of content that they produce. For instance, there are specific companies whose focus is either Film, TV, Music, or Gaming content. Of course, that specific content will overlap due to partnerships but you get the idea.

Another industry area is Interactive Marketing. As I stated earlier, I work for a digital marketing agency and there are quite a few here in Austin. They come in different shapes and sizes and perform different strategic functions. Some shops are full service and others are more specialized. These companies can focus on Web Development, Creative, Email Campaigns, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Social Marketing, etc. I could go on and on.

That reminds me. Social Networking needs its own category as well. In fact I’m sure I will be adding categories as we go along and as new technology emerges. For now this is it.
